On January 25, 1941 the Leningrad Aviation Institute (LAI) was founded on the former premises of the Leningrad Road Institute (Gastello Street, 15) by the Decree of the Soviet Government. 1200 students were enrolled in three faculties of Aircraft Construction, Instrumentation and Motor Building. During the Great Patriotic War the Institute operated an aircraft and tank repair shop. While some of the students and the faculty standing for the city, the LAI was evacuated.

III International Workshop on Language, Music and Computing

December 16-18, 2019 SUAI will hold the III International Workshop on Language, Music and Computing.
Aims of the workshop: to encourage interdisciplinary communication and collaboration of linguists, musicians and IT-specialists in the sphere of some actual problems, among which are the following:
1. Language and music acquisition; influence of music skills on language acquisition and language processing; influence of linguistic skills on music acquisition; relationship between music and language training.
2. Linguistic and music knowledge, their structure and functioning; explicit and implicit knowledge of music and language; similarities and differences in understanding of music and language.
3. Automatic classification of linguistic and music knowledge; formal models of linguistic and music knowledge; musical information retrieval vs. linguistic information retrieval.
This year special topics of the workshop are:
Electroacoustic music and music informatics
Sound corpora in music and linguistics

SUAI at High Level UNESCO Conference

November 13, 2019 SUAIs Rector Yulia A. Antokhina represented the University at the High Level UNESCO Conference on inclusion and mobility in higher education.

In the Conference within the 40th UNESCO General Conference universities-partners of UNESCO promoted access to higher education of excellent quality based on open sources and IT mechanisms.

The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation marked growing popularity of Russian higher education, Mikhail M. Kotyukov, sharing positions with France and Germany.

In accordance with UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals, the Conference resulted in accepting the UNESCO Global Convention on higher education qualification recognition, integration and equal accessibility.

CosmoStart 2019 Opening at SUAI

November 7, 2019 the SUAIs Rector Yulia A. Antokhina opened the CosmoStart 2019 Festival. This years CosmoStart is dedicated to the Moon surface studies to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Soviet expedition of 1959 when the world saw the pictures of the Moons dark side for the first time.

The Festival brought together more than 1000 participants from 12 regions of Russia to test R&D achievements, enjoy the show and meet colleagues and friends.

Russian cosmonauts Sergey K. Krikalev, Andrei I. Borisenko, Mukhtar R. Aikhmanov and St. Petersburg administration attended the Festival to encourage youth and discuss national cosmonautics.

Meeting with Dr. Carlos López-Mariscal

October 31, 2019. Dr. Carlos López-Mariscal visited the university and gave a lecture on Writing the Best Journal Manuscript and on Tailored vector polarization states of light, presenting a novel experimental technique to straightforwardly generate arbitrary vector beams and  demonstrating numerical evidence to validate their designed state of polarization. 

The second part of the presentationdwelled on development of leadership skills for young scientists and possibilities of realizing their potential in science.

SUAI Meets Polytechnic Institute of Advanced Science (France)

October 22, 2019 SUAI welcomed a French delegation from the Polytechnic Institute of Advanced Science (IPSA) of the Toulouse campus Head Jean-Marc Chalin and the Coordinator of IPSA development program with Russia Marina Latour.

SUAI met the guests with speeches and presentations by the Rector Yulia A. Antokhina, the Vice-Rector for the international Affairs Konstantin V. Losev and the Vice-Rector for Educational Activities Valery A. Matyash promoting student exchange.

In the negotiations the parties discussed the dual certification program and curriculums for French students, interns at SUAI. The IPSA delegation met their students at SUAI to hear positive feedback on educational process.

Shanghai Administration Visits SUAI

October 21, 2019 SUAI welcomed a delegation from Shanghai of administration and experts in education.

SUAIs Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev talked on educational programs and SUAIs international cooperation with Chinese education including the Shanghai Polytechnic University (SSPU). This September SUAIs Rector Yulia A. Antokhina was reelected in the SSPU Supervisory Board until 2024.

The Director of the Institute of Aerospace Instrumentation and Systems Nikolay N. Maiorov presented SUAIs technical educational programs with, aerospace instrumentation being a leading field for SUAIs international cooperation within BRAIA and ARTU BRICS.

In the talks the parties discussed prospects of cooperation between Russian and Chinese education and R&D promoting international internships and R&D developments.

SUAI at XX dubbing Festival Voci nellOmbra

October 9-12, 2019 Italian cities of Genoa and Savona hosted the XX dubbing Festival Voci nellOmbra supported by SUAI.

Marina A. Chikhanova, the Head of the Department of Foreign Languages, spoke on the Mass Media and Dubbing Language as the Third Norm and on the Influence of Italian research on Russian audiovisual translation science. The speech arose interest with leading experts in audiovisual translation.

Due to the necessity of proper translation for multimedia, SUAIs Department of Foreign Languages organizes courses for its students in linguistics, read by translators of audiovisual products.

SUAI at SPIEF17 and II Interregional Forum Strengthening of the International SME Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean

SUAI took part in the II Interregional Forum Strengthening of the International SME Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017 (SPIEF17) held on the premises of the St. Petersburg Expoforum.

SPIEF17 was attended by representatives of over 30 countries Trade and Economy ministers, diplomats, state export officials, big business.

Prior to the opening the St. Petersburg Vice-Governor S. Movchan had a meeting with the delegations of Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the meeting the St. Petersburg officials discussed the topical issues with delegates from Cuba, Ecuador, Honduras, El-Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela, Suriname, Panama, Uruguay, and other.

At SPIEF17 SUAI was represented by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs K. Losev and L. Kheyfets and V. Kheyfets of the SUAI Department of International Entrepreneurship to meet, among others, E. Zhikh, the Director of Russia-Latin America Business Center and sign an Agreement on Cooperation.

The Forum ended in signing an official protocol by A. Shchetinin, the Director of Latin America Department of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs A. Shchetinin and Carlos Ernesto Chanduvi Suarez, Chief of Latin America and the Caribbean Division, UNIDO.

SUAI Meets Indonesian Delegation from Institute of Transport and Logistics Trisakti

October 11, 2019 SUAI welcomed a delegation from the Institute of Transport and Logistics Trisakti (ITL Trisakti), headed by the Vice-Rector for Marketing and Cooperation Affairs Juliater Simarmata. ITL Trisakti represents leading transportation education of Indonesia, home for over 260 million people, living between Asia, Australia and America. Interested in modern higher education, this rapidly developing country is seeking for partners in science and education.
The Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V Losev started the negotiations with a presentation on SUAIs educational programs followed with talks on logistics and transport processes management by the Director of the Institute of aerospace instruments and systems Nikolay N. Maiorov.
The Indonesian party claimed that cooperation with SUAI could provide Indonesian talents with an opportunity to get higher education in Russia participating in SUAIs exchanges and internships.
The parties agreed to cooperate in student and faculty exchange upon signing a MoU between SUAI and ITL Trisakti.

Department of Science and Technologies of Henan Visits SUAI

September 30, 2019 A Chinese delegation from the Department of Science and Technologies of Henan visited SUAI to meet the Universitys technical education.

The meeting opened with a presentation by the Head of International Cooperation Sub-department Yulia V. Makarova on SUAIs educational programs.

The SUAIs delegation with leaders of the Institute of Aerospace Instruments and Systems and the Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Communications Nikolay N. Maiorov and Alexander R. Bestugin talked on their institutes R&D and education to find new ideas for cooperation with the Chinese guests.

In the talks the parties exchanged experience and shared views on promising joint projects.

Nikolay N. Maiorov and Alexander R. Bestugin invited Chinese science and education to participated in SUAIs annual conferences organized by SUAIs technical institutes.

Strengthening Cooperation between SUAI and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics

September 29, 2019 a SUAI delegation headed by the Rector Yulia A. Antokhina arrived at the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) to talk on future cooperation and discuss Russian and Chinese progress in education and current challenges.

The negotiations resulted in signing the MoU on Global Strategic Partnership and the Summer / Winter School Agreement.

September 29, 2019 the Study-abroad Fair was held in Shanghai within the Global Partnership Week at the Shanghai Polytechnic University (SSPU). The Fair was organized for exclusive partners of SSPU to meet talented students.

SUAI presented its educational programs and information on enrollment to increase the Universitys ranking worldwide.

SUAI at SSPU Council Meeting

September 28, 2019 within the Global Partnership Week 2019 at the Shanghai Polytechnic University (SSPU) the Council Meeting was held, an annual event for planning and organizing.

The SUAIs Rector Yulia A. Antokhina, a member to the SSPU Council since 2016, has contributed to the development of SSPU.

In the Meeting the Council members talked on educational strategy at SSPU, partnership with education and industry etc.

SSPU administration thanked their partners for cooperation and contribution, Yulia A. Antokhina being reelected in the Council until 2024. The reelection shall result in more cooperation between SUAI and SSPU.

Creative Activities

For decades, SUAI graduates leading designers, chief engineers, heads of large industrial enterprises have been shaping the aircraft, the space and the instrumentation engineering.
