On January 25, 1941 the Leningrad Aviation Institute (LAI) was founded on the former premises of the Leningrad Road Institute (Gastello Street, 15) by the Decree of the Soviet Government. 1200 students were enrolled in three faculties of Aircraft Construction, Instrumentation and Motor Building. During the Great Patriotic War the Institute operated an aircraft and tank repair shop. While some of the students and the faculty standing for the city, the LAI was evacuated.

6th Philosophy and Culture of the Information Society International Conference at SUAI

November 16, 2018 the The St.George Hall at SUAI (Gastello Street, 15) became a venue for the opening of the 6th Philosophy and Culture of the Information Society International Conference to discuss experiences and challenges of modern society, problems in Philosophy, Culture, Sociology, Political Science and Psychology of the Information Society.

The ceremony started with the Vice-Rector for Educational Work Victor M. Boers reading the greeting letter by the Rector Yu. Antokhina.

The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Konstantin V. Losev talked on philosophical and cultural problems posed by technology-based society. He also stressed the international character of the Conference, attended by Italy and Belarus this time.

Doctor in Philosophy, Professor Sergei V. Orlov welcomed the guests to discuss and share opinions on this years topics.

5th Association of Rectors of Transport Universities of Russia and China Forum

November 14, 2018 St. Petersburg hosted the 5th Forum of Russian-Chinese Transport Universities Rector Association within the Betancourt International Engineering Forum.

SUAI, an active partner of international transport universities, was represented by its Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev. A member of BRAIA Initiative, SUAI cooperates with leading Chinese universities in developing navigation systems, transport infrastructure and projecting a high-speed railway system.

The session opened with the Chairman of the Federation Council of the RF Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenkos letter to the participants, read by the Rector of the St. Petersburg State Transport University Alexander Panychev.

The Forum heard the speeches by the General Secretary of the Chinese Peoples Society for International Friendship Li Xikuai, the President of the Eurasia international corporation Feng Yaou and the Council for Chinese Education in St. Petersburg Sun Lailin.

In the Forum Russian and Chinese university leaders shared experience in R&D for identifying new challenges.

The next Forum is to be held at the Beijing Union University October 2019.

SUAI Welcomes Liming Vocational University (PRC)

November 8, 2018 SUAI welcomed a delegation from the Liming Vocational University (Quanzhou, PRC), headed by its President Mr. Songbai WANG to discuss educational programs and mutual internships.

The delegation was greeted by the SUAI Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev. The talks started with a presentation on SUAIs education in aeronautics and aviation.

Konstantin V. Losev promoted SUAIs Russian language courses for international students.

The parties agreed to enhance cooperation by creating and signing a framework agreement between the universities.

IPSA Visits SUAI

October 23, 2018 SUAI welcomed the delegation from Engineering School in Aeronautical and Space Systems (IPSA, France) of the IPSA Toulouse campus head Jean-Marc Chalin and the Coordinator of IPSA development program with Russia Marina Latour.

The SUAI delegation of the Rector Yulia A. Antokhina, the Vice-Rector for the international Affairs Konstantin V. Losev, the Vice-Rector for Educational Activities Valery A. Matyash with other administration and science of SUAI outlined the long history of successful cooperation between the two universities.

In the negotiations the parties discussed curriculums for student exchange and joint master training, resulting in a new dual certification program.

Strengthening of Russia-LAC Cooperation

October 18, 2018 SUAI welcomed Bastian Palacio Esquivel, the Director of STEM in the Republic of Chile, and Francisca Motecions Petite, a talented young researcher.

The SUAI Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev met the Chilean delegation with a presentation on education at SUAI and a proposal of student exchange agreements between Russia and Chile with SUAI participation.

Young researchers outlined the quality of higher education at SUAI stressing the growing interest among Chilean students to Russian universities.

The meeting saw a preliminary arrangement for several Chilean students to take a course at SUAI in the next academic year.

October 17, 2018 SUAI administration met a delegation from the Gansu Institute of Electromechanics and Technology headed by Professor Li Zongyi.

In the meeting with the SUAI Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev and the heads of the DIA offices the delegation discussed Russia-China strategic cooperation in education and science.

SUAI at SPIEF17 and II Interregional Forum Strengthening of the International SME Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean

SUAI took part in the II Interregional Forum Strengthening of the International SME Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017 (SPIEF17) held on the premises of the St. Petersburg Expoforum.

SPIEF17 was attended by representatives of over 30 countries Trade and Economy ministers, diplomats, state export officials, big business.

Prior to the opening the St. Petersburg Vice-Governor S. Movchan had a meeting with the delegations of Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the meeting the St. Petersburg officials discussed the topical issues with delegates from Cuba, Ecuador, Honduras, El-Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela, Suriname, Panama, Uruguay, and other.

At SPIEF17 SUAI was represented by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs K. Losev and L. Kheyfets and V. Kheyfets of the SUAI Department of International Entrepreneurship to meet, among others, E. Zhikh, the Director of Russia-Latin America Business Center and sign an Agreement on Cooperation.

The Forum ended in signing an official protocol by A. Shchetinin, the Director of Latin America Department of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs A. Shchetinin and Carlos Ernesto Chanduvi Suarez, Chief of Latin America and the Caribbean Division, UNIDO.

Russian and Chinese Aerospace Universities Meet in Xian (PRC)

October 14-15, 2018 The Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) in Xian hosted the Council Meeting of the Aerospace and Aviation Industries Association within the BRAIA framework. SUAI was represented by its Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev.

In the Council Meeting of Russian and Chinese leading aerospace universities the parties shared experience in industry-oriented training and joint projects.

SUAI congratulated NPU on its 80th Anniversary wishing prosperity and new advances in science and education.

October 4, 2018 the Director of the Department of Geopolitics at the Honduran Ministry of Foreign Affairs Luis Velasquez visited SUAI, greeted by its Rector Yulia A. Antokhina, the SUAI President Anatoly A. Ovodenko and the Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev.

The SUAI Rector Yulia A. Antokhina informed the honorable guest on SUAIs history and education.

The SUAI President Anatoly A. Ovodenko, also the Head of UNESCO Chair and the Ibero-American Center, highlighted SUAIs role in promoting cooperation between Russia and Latin America.

The SUAI Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev presented international joint projects by SUAI and universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

The parties agreed to develop cooperation between SUAI and leading universities of LAC.

SUAI at the Global Partnership Week 2018

September 27-30, 2018 Shanghai Polytechnic University held the Global Partnership Week (GPW) a forum for universities.

SUAIs delegation was headed by Yulia A. Antokhina, the Rector of SUAI.

This year GPW discussed cooperation between education and industry, training talents for hi-tech R&D and industries, research and technology sharing, innovation and entrepreneurship, with the SUAIs Rector Yulia A. Antokhina presenting the Universitys achievements in cooperation both Russian and foreign knowledge-based industries.

The Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev liaised with international universities from Finland, USA and Australia.

The Head of the SUAI Center for Research Coordination Aleksey V. Rabin attended the SUAI promotion stand at the Forum.

September 28, 2018 the SSPUs Rector Baoru Song held the annual Council Meeting to discuss current challenges and achievements with the Supervisory Board.

The SUAIs Rector Yulia A. Antokhina, a member of SSPU Supervisory Board, promoted new forms of cooperation for mutual benefit of the parties.

Research and Practice Seminar at SUAI by Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS)

September 25-26, 2018 Ossi Väänänen, a Senior Lecturer from TUAS (Finland), gave research and practice seminars on IP-network addressing and internet network routing and switching techniques for information systems and information security students. Mr. Väänänen runs Cisco Networking Academy and teaches at TUAS.

His presentation aroused much interest, provoking heated discussions.

The visit by Ossi Väänänen took place within the First+ program, promoting cooperation between Russian and Finnish education.

Creative Activities

For decades, SUAI graduates leading designers, chief engineers, heads of large industrial enterprises have been shaping the aircraft, the space and the instrumentation engineering.
