On January 25, 1941 the Leningrad Aviation Institute (LAI) was founded on the former premises of the Leningrad Road Institute (Gastello Street, 15) by the Decree of the Soviet Government. 1200 students were enrolled in three faculties of Aircraft Construction, Instrumentation and Motor Building. During the Great Patriotic War the Institute operated an aircraft and tank repair shop. While some of the students and the faculty standing for the city, the LAI was evacuated.

SUAI 76 years

                                                               January 25, 2017 On the day of the Holy Martyr Tatyana, the patroness of all Russian students, the University celebrated its 76th Anniversary, merging two holidays. Celebrations began early in the morning with music and show right in the entrance hall! Photos with astronaut, quiz on SUAI, balloons and limited edition calendars made the event unforgettable!

Chinese High-Tech at SUAI

SUAI welcomed Chinese officials and high-tech from the city of Wuhan, PRC. The weighty delegation were Sun Zhijun, Deputy Head of the Organizational Department of the Wuhan Municipal Committee, Song Zhiping, Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of the Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone, Lei Lijun, Director of the Organizational Department of Quinqshan District Committee, Li Weifan, Director of Organizational Department of Dongxihu District Committee, Sun Fan, Deputy Head of Wuhan Municipal Administration for International Activities, Wang Feng, Deputy Director of Wuhan Aiport Construction, Yan Changkun, Vice-CEO of Yangtze Optical Fiber and Cable Joint Stock Ltd. Co., Pan Xincheng, Chairman of BOAD GROUP Inc., Zhu Yun of Jiyuan Technical Service Ltd. Co.

The delegation was greeted by the SUAI Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev, the Head of Scientific Research Coordination Centre A. Rabin, the Head of Institute 2 A. Bestugin, the Deputy Head of Institute 2 I. Kirshina, Senior Research Associate of Department 23 O. Shakin, with E. Belich and E. Chinarova of the DIA.

A. Bestugin and O. Shakin spoke on Institute 2 educational and research activities and prospective projects provoking lively interest of the Chinese delegation.

The Chinese manufacturers paid particular attention to report on optical technologies ready to provide both facilities and funding for a mutually beneficial project the major outcome of the meeting.

SUAI Welcomes Henan Provincial Peoples Government

An official delegation of the Foreign Affairs Office from Henan, a North-Central province in China, visited SUAI to learn about the University educational and research activities and to talk:

Chu Yaping, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Henan Provincial Peoples Congress, Chen Jiansheng, Director General of the Ethnic, Overseas and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Standing Committee of Henan Provincial Peoples Congress, Hao Lijun, Deputy Director General of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Henan Provincial Peoples Government, Mao Jie, Deputy Director General of Henan Provincial Department of Education, Cao Jian, Vice President of Zhongyuan University of Technology, and Liu Di, Interpreter of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Henan Provincial Peoples Government.

The meeting with the SUAI Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev and the heads of the DIA offices E. Belich and E. Chinarova brought a preliminary agreement by the parties on professor and student exchange to strengthen international cooperation in science and education.

Session of Russian-Chilean Workshop on Cooperation in the Field of Science, Technology and Education

A session of the Russian-Chilean Workshop on Cooperation in Science, Technology and Education took place in Moscow.

The Russian delegation was headed by Yury V. Raspiortov, the Head of the Development and Cooperation Office at the International Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, and the Chilean delegation, by Rodriguez Gabriel, the Head of the Energy, Science, Technology and Innovation Division of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the Workshop, SUAI was represented by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin V. Losev.

The Workshop discussed bilateral cooperation in science, energy, mass communications and high-tech to result in a number of major decisions for science and economy of the two countries taken.

SUAI at Eurasian Humanities Forum

SUAI at Eurasian Humanities Forum

June 11-12, 2017 The Ufa Congress Hall hosted the Second Eurasian Humanities Forum to discuss the issues of vocational training within the Education 2030 Framework for Action by UNESCO.

The Forum brought together participants from related state ministries and agencies, institutes and colleges of vocational training, national UNESCO commissions and WorlSkills, educators, statesmen and politicians of Italy, the Netherlands, Mongolia, Armenia, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Vietnam, Turkey and Russia. Among the attendees was Mr. Grigory Ordzhonikidze, Secretary-General of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO and the Ambassador-at-large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

SUAI was represented by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs Konstantin Losev.

On June 12 the Forum discussed the concept of new international cooperation WorldSkillsEurasia allowing wider integration of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan to raise the standards in vocational training and to promote competitive economies with a unified system of educational quality assessment recognized internationally and benchmarked by the WorlSkills.

The Forum resulted in adopting a Resolution.

SUAI Welcomes Shanghai University of Engineering Science

July 3-4, 2017 SUAI welcomed the delegation of the Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES), China.

SUES Vice President Xia Siyun, Deputy Director of the International Office Zhang Zhongkui, Deputy Dean of School of Air Transportation Yao Hongguang and Deputy Dean of School of Electrics and Electronics Liu Jin learnt about the SUAI educational and research activities and discussed the prospects of cooperation.

The meeting opened with speeches by the SUAI Rector Yulia Antokhina and the SUES Vice President Xia Siyun.

The presentation of SUAI was made by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs K. Losev, the Head of the SUAI Center for Research Coordination A. Rabin talked on SUAI R&D.

Presentations were also made of the SUAI Institute of Airspace Instruments and Systems, the Institute of High Performance Computer and Network Technologies, the Institute of Radioengineering, Electronics and Communication.

The meeting finished with discussion of further interaction and cooperation.

SUAI at SPIEF17 and II Interregional Forum Strengthening of the International SME Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean

SUAI took part in the II Interregional Forum Strengthening of the International SME Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017 (SPIEF17) held on the premises of the St. Petersburg Expoforum.

SPIEF17 was attended by representatives of over 30 countries Trade and Economy ministers, diplomats, state export officials, big business.

Prior to the opening the St. Petersburg Vice-Governor S. Movchan had a meeting with the delegations of Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the meeting the St. Petersburg officials discussed the topical issues with delegates from Cuba, Ecuador, Honduras, El-Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela, Suriname, Panama, Uruguay, and other.

At SPIEF17 SUAI was represented by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs K. Losev and L. Kheyfets and V. Kheyfets of the SUAI Department of International Entrepreneurship to meet, among others, E. Zhikh, the Director of Russia-Latin America Business Center and sign an Agreement on Cooperation.

The Forum ended in signing an official protocol by A. Shchetinin, the Director of Latin America Department of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs A. Shchetinin and Carlos Ernesto Chanduvi Suarez, Chief of Latin America and the Caribbean Division, UNIDO.

Scientific Conference on Wave Electronics

June 26-30, 2017 The 20th International Youth Scientific Conference on Wave electronics and its applications in information and telecommunication systems' opened at SUAI with over 100 researchers from Russia, USA, Denmark, Poland, Belorussia, and a number of sections, like the SUAI SPIE/OSA student section.

The Conferences 47 reports were marked by the SUAI President Anatoly Ovodenko for their prominence and prospects. Morion Inc., supporting the Conference, awarded 12 researches with prizes and grants.

20th International Youth Scientific Conference

June 26, 2017 The 20th International Youth Scientific Conference on Wave electronics and its applications in information and telecommunication systems' opened at SUAI to promote student involvement in scientific research.

The SUAI Rector Yulia A. Antokhina welcomed the Conference participants from Russia and abroad, and the Russian Academician to chair the Conference Alexander S. Bugaev spoke on the role of wave electronics for technological and scientific advances in the past decades.

SUAI at 4th International BRAZIL-RUSSIA 2017 Forum

June 20, 2017 The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Moscow welcomed the 4th International BRAZIL-RUSSIA 2017 Forum under the auspices of the Brazil Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russia-Brazil Business Council¸ CN CEPLA and Apex-Brazil.

The Forum was attended by Michel Miguel Elias Temer Lulia, the President of Brazil, and Arkady Dvorkovich, the Russian Vice-Premier.

The opening was jointly held by Antonio Luis Espinola Salgado, the Ambassador of Brazil in Russia, Santiago Mourão, the Under-Secretary-General for International Cooperation, Development of Trade and Culture, and Sergey Vasiliev, the Chairman of the Russia-Brazil Business Council, to allow for Russian and Brazilian business and industry leaders together with Brazilian ministers to discuss the issues of trade between the countries and prospective investment in energy and infrastructure.

SUAI representative at the Forum, Konstantin Losev, the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, had a number of meetings to promote SUAI official inclusion in the joint program for cooperation of Russia, Latin America (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Honduras, El Salvador) and the Caribbean.

Creative Activities

For decades, SUAI graduates leading designers, chief engineers, heads of large industrial enterprises have been shaping the aircraft, the space and the instrumentation engineering.
